W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high quality, heritage-inspired garments for women - with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converting shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops & artisans.
Introducing the new Spring/Summer '24 Collection: Pawai Paratroopers - a celebration of Thailand's first group of female paratroopers, whose motto was "to prove that women can do anything as well as a man, no matter what affair. Whatever the task, be it on land, in water, or in the air." (Paratrooper Ampai Sombat, Freedom Magazine 1961). Through their action, these women became cultural figureheads of radical change during the 1960s, inspiring new attitudes towards women and social progress throughout Thailand.
The Play Shirt is aptly named, with a design that's both stylish and fun, featuring balloon sleeves and ruffle details at the collar, placket, and cuffs. With a fairly natural fit through the torso, the silhouette is exaggerated beyond the shoulders, terminating in short sleeves that are perfect for hot weather. Even with the embellishments, the overall cut is relaxed and easy, great for layering, but also great on its own.
It's made from a lightweight 90% linen / 10% nylon blend that breathes and drapes excellently. Milled in Japan, it's soft and airy, a fantastic summer fabric that will only develop more character with wear as the linen settles into the shape of your body.
